"Pulso
Forte" is a direct result of the first Rio de Janeiro Jazz
Trio CD "Marakablu", where the group experimented mixing
jazz harmonies with Maracatu and Coco rhythms, influenced by Chico
Science, Nação Zumbi, and Coco Raizes do Arco Verde.
Drummer, Andrew Scott Potter, inspired by the force and swing of
stand up bass player Paulo Russo, took the eight note driving snare
of the Maracatu, and changed it to an Elvis Jones triplit jazz feel,
mixed with hip hop shuffle funk. Add the fire of Dario Galantes
piano, and the group invented a new rhythm section feel never played
before, represented on "New Beat", "Manuela"
and "Pulso Novo".
They also recorded two beautiful sambas, "Samba para Morena"
and "Samba de Oz", an impressive Bop - "Three Note
Blues"; a spontaneous improvisation - "After Lunch",
and a wild Coco - "Pepes Coco Loco".
This innovative group is breaking new ground with "Pulso Forte".
